With results elsewhere going in Fulham’s favour, the draw pulls the Whites a further point away from the relegation zone.

Fulham started the match brightly and David James was called into action in the fourth minute when a well weighted Steed Malbranque through ball found the run of Boa Morte.  With Andrew Cole loitering in the area, the England international keeper had to react well to cut the cross out.

In Manchester City’s first significant spell of pressure of the match, Sibierski’s shot forced a smart tip over from Van der Sar.

The visitors took the lead in the 19th minute when Claudio Reyna was in the right place at the right time to capitalise on a push out from Van der Sar.  Robbie Fowler started the move by pulling out wide to the right and crossing for Sibierski, whose powerful header could only be parried into the path of the onrushing US international midfielder.

The goal came somewhat against the run on play as Fulham had been enjoying the majority of possession, albeit without applying too much pressure on James’ goal. In fact, the visiting custodian was called into his first serious save of the match when he had to leap to his left and grab a fiercely stuck Bosvelt miss hit just minutes earlier.

Fulham proceeded to ride out a spell of persistent City pressure before turning the screw themselves. A swift counter attack on 42 minutes orchestrated by Liam Rosenior, Luis Boa Morte and Andrew Cole stalled at the final pass when Cole played the ball to far in front of the Portuguese winger.

Shortly after, a superb save from James prevented the Whites from going in level at the interval when his fingertip diverted the ball onto the far post after a fine run and shot from Boa Morte.

Fulham started the second half on the front foot and could have levelled the scores when Malbranque slotted the ball through to Cole down the inside right channel.  With only James to beat, Cole fired his shot well wide of the mark.

The Whites had to survive a major scare on 55 minutes when Malbranque’s dangerous back pass fell into the path of Robbie Fowler.  The striker proceeded to round two challenges before firing a low shot just wide.  It was a big let-off for Fulham.

Undeterred, the Whites continued to push for the goal but although they were largely dominating proceedings in midfield, the City back line was proving a harder nut to crack.  Chris Coleman soon rang in the changes when he brought off Cole and Malbranque for Radzinski and John.

The change almost paid immediate dividends when a John snapshot on the turn deflected off Distin and flew just wide of James’ left hand post.

Fulham finally got the reward their pressure deserved when Luis Boa Morte netted the leveller from 11 yards. Lee Clark’s deep diagonal cross was challenged for by McBride and the American’s presence was enough to cause James to fumble the catch. The loose ball was squared to Boa Morte who kept his composure to fire home.

Tomasz Radzinski came close to scoring Fulham’s second after a Pembridge long throw was flicked into the Canadian’s path by McBride.  His shot had plenty of power but screwed off the outside of his right foot and into the crowd.
