Pedersen capped Rovers' first-half domination by hammering in a volley off the bar from a cross by Shefki Kuqi, who then came close to a second.

Fulham improved either side of the break as Brad Fridel parried Papa Bouba Diop's header before Brian McBride levelled from Niclas Jensen's cross.

But Tugay clinched victory when he thundered in from Pedersen's corner.

It was sweet revenge for Blackburn, who lost 3-1 in this fixture towards the end of last season, and they deserved it after producing a performance that was unrecognisable from last week's capitulation at West Ham.

After Friedel spilled Boa Morte's 25-yard effort, it was pretty much all the home side in the first 45 minutes as they poured forward.

The absence of Craig Bellamy forced Mark Hughes to play five in midfield and it helped create good shooting chances for Brett Emerton, Kuqi and Pedersen, which were squandered.

A breakthrough duly came when a flowing length-of-the-pitch move ended with Kuqi's right-wing cross being met by Pedersen's thunderous volley at the far post.

Fulham were being over-run and almost went 2-0 down when Kuqi poked just wide and was then thwarted by Tony Warner, who stood up well.

After taking a battering for half an hour, the visitors should have been celebrating an equaliser when Bouba Diop met Claus Jensen's free-kick with a powerful header, only for Friedel to brilliantly keep it out.

Fulham used that ray of hope to shine brightly at the start of the second half, and they were level when McBride got a feint touch to Niclas Jensen's cross.

Blackburn hit back immediately through two inswinging Pedersen corners. Kuqi hooked over from two yards and Warner tipped the second over.

But Rovers had lost the zip and fluidity of the first half, which played into Fulham's hands as Niclas Jensen went close with a curling free-kick. After a quiet spell, however, Blackburn exerted more pressure and were back in front.

Lucas Neil played a fine ball over the top to Emerton, whose fierce drive was parried by Warner. The second of two ensuing Pedersen corners fell to Tugay and he more than matched the Norwegian's effort by cracking the ball past Warner.

Chris Coleman threw on Collins John and Heidar Helguson for McBride and the innefective Tomasz Radzinski in a bid to salvage a point  But Neil came closest to another goal, seeing his effort from just outside the box smack off the underside of the bar.
