After the wholesale changes for the Carling Cup tie against Lincoln, Fulham reverted to the line up that had started the previous Premiership game against West Ham. There was a change on the bench however with Mark Crossley making his first appearance of the season after returning from injury. Phillippe Christanval was also on the bench.

Spurs had the first effort on goal when Lee Young-Pyo fired in a thirty yarder which Tony Warner turned aside for a corner. Spurs took the lead on 7 minutes as Jermaine Defoe raced onto a long ball from Ledley King and slammed the ball past Warner from just inside the box.

Fulham’s first foray forward saw Diop fire a long range effort which was deflected for a corner. Soon after Zat Knight then incurred the referee’s displeasure when he was booked for kicking the ball away.

Fulham began to exert some pressure forcing two corners before Claus Jensen unleashed a fierce shot which clipped the top of the crossbar.

Spurs came close to doubling their lead on 26 minutes when Mido exchanged passes with Defoe but the Egyptian striker saw his shot deflected. In the next move Lee Young- Pyo saw his cross float narrowly wide of goal. At the other end Brian McBride saw a snapshot pass just wide of the post.

Former Leeds midfielder Aaron Lennon was proving a tricky character and his running caused a moment of panic in the Fulham defence, the ball came back to the edge of the box where Davids unleashed a fierce shot from which Warner made a fine diving save.

On the stroke of half time Fulham produced their best move of the first half, Moritz Volz found Luis Boa Morte with a deep cross which he played back to Niclas Jensen whose cross was headed over by Tomasz Radzinski.

The second half  started with a penalty shout from the home side when Aaron Lennon played the ball into Paul Stalteri who went down inside the box but Referee Wiley waved away the
appeal.

A neat move saw Volz play a crossfield pass flicked on to Luis Boa Morte by the head of Brian McBride - the cross played back to the edge of the area found Steed Malbranque who fired just over the bar. Soon after Tomasz Radzinski found himself in a great position but his shot was blocked by Robinson.

A mix up on the touchline between Moritz Volz and Steed Malbranque saw Aaron Lennon speed into the Fulham box but with the goal at his mercy he pulled his effort well wide. In the 61st minute Papa Bouba Diop was booked for a challenge on Paul Salteri.

A flurry of substitutions saw the introduction of Andy Reid and Robbie Keane for Spurs along with Collins John who replaced Brian Mc Bride.

Collins John was almost in on goal a few minutes after his introduction when the got on the end of a Boa Morte centre but a challenge from a Spurs defender sent the ball high into the air and the home defence completed the clearance. Moments later John was again in action prodding the ball forward to Luis Boa Morte who just failed to make a meaningful connection and the ball rolled harmlessly wide.

In the dying seconds Fulham came close to an equaliser when Moritz Volz saw his header from a Claus Jensen corner saved under the bar by Paul Robinson.
