Fulham secured a massive victory at Carrow Road as goals from Pajtim Kasami and Scott Parker saw them come from behind to beat Norwich City 2-1.

A deflected Gary Hooper strike had handed the hosts the lead but the Whites levelled when Kasami’s free-kick found a way through the Norwich wall and into the back of the net.

Fulham were the better side from thereon in but both sides had chances to win it, and the returning Hugo Rodallega thought he’d done just that when he bundled in at the far post, but not all of the ball crossed the line.

It mattered little in the end, though, as Whites Captain Parker smashed a brilliant effort into the corner from 20-yards out to earn his side a huge three points.

René Meulensteen made five changes to the side that put in a gallant display against Manchester City five days ago, with Fernando Amorebieta, Kasami, Damien Duff and Alexander Kačaniklić all coming in, while David Stockdale started in goal after Maarten Stekelenburg went over on his ankle during a Christmas Day training session.

The game’s first chance arrived four minutes in when Kasami was presented with the ball after Parker had won possession inside Norwich’s half. The Switzerland international advanced purposefully towards goal but his well-struck effort from 20 yards out was claimed by John Ruddy at the second attempt.

A Bradley Johnson shot from range shortly after was never troubling Stockdale but the Fulham defence was much more concerned when Nathan Redmond whipped in a dangerous cross a minute later. Thankfully, Kieran Richardson was on hand to hook away before a Norwich man could poke it into the net.

The Canaries were far from in control of the game but they took the lead in fortuitous fashion in the 13th minute. Hooper didn’t have much on when he collected the ball 25 yards from goal so tried his luck and his effort took a massive deflection off Aaron Hughes to loop over Stockdale for 1-0.

That goal gave Norwich a renewed vigour but the Whites responded in the 20th minute with a Kasami effort that slid a yard wide of the far post after he’d done well to work some space for himself between three yellow shirts.

Fulham hearts were in mouths a minute later, though, when a miscommunication between Hughes and Stockdale allowed Johan Elmander to nip in and steal the ball, but Amorebieta got back well to avert the danger.

Norwich should have doubled their lead in the 25th minute when a high ball was headed back into the area by Sascha Riether with Hooper gleefully accepting the loose pass before tamely hitting an effort wide. It was a big let off for the away side and they almost capitalised two minutes later. Kasami was hacked down on the edge of the area and Richardson planted the subsequent free-kick onto the top of Ruddy’s net.

And the Whites went even closer shortly after when Duff met Kasami’s delicious cross but was stretching when he connected and the ball sailed agonisingly wide.

Fulham had the ball in the net just after the half-hour mark when excellent pressing forced Ruddy into a rushed clearance that he smashed straight into Parker. The ball ricocheted into the net but via the midfielder’s arm which had been raised to protect himself from Ruddy’s fiercely struck kick.

The visitors were by far and away the better side now and were rewarded in the 33rd minute through Kasami’s set-piece. Parker was scythed down outside the box and, after Steve Sidwell had sold the wall a dummy, Kasami smashed a low effort through and beyond Ruddy.

A combination of Adel Taarabt and Kasami then worked some space on the edge of the box in the 41st minute with the latter flashing an effort wide. Replays showed that the Whites should have been awarded another free-kick as the turf-ridden Sebastien Bassong handled the ball as Kasami went to strike.

Redmond’s trickery and low crosses had caused problems for Fulham in the first half and the young winger was at it again immediately after the restart, although Stockdale read the situation well to smother his delivery.

A delightful flick from Taarabt in the 49th minute sent Kačaniklić into space in the area but he wasn’t able to get an effort away as Bassong’s presence was enough to prevent him getting the ball properly under control. Following the breakdown of that move, Michael Turner was shown the game’s first yellow card after he’d fouled Taarabt off the ball in an earlier build-up.

Norwich then won a corner after Redmond’s strike had deflected over, with Leroy Fer seeing his header from the set-piece cleared off the line by Riether.

Incredible vision from Amorebieta in the 56th minute saw the defender send a brilliant forward pass into Taarabt’s path but, with the Moroccan stretching, Ruddy was able to claim his first-time effort without too much concern.

Fer – who has been using his physicality against Fulham all game – followed Turner into the book in the 58th minute, with Meulensteen then making an attacking change as Rodallega entered the action for Duff, before Ricky van Wolfswinkel came on for Elmander.

Quick feet from Martin Olsson ended with the full-back winning a free-kick in a good position on the edge of the area after being clipped by Sidwell, with Redmond’s set-piece hitting the wall and going behind for a corner which culminated in Fer heading straight at Stockdale.

With Norwich enjoying plenty of possession it was important that the Whites fought to get back into the game and they did just that with Taarabt hitting a ferocious strike from 35 yards that Ruddy did well to hold.

Then Kačaniklić latched onto a precise throughball to get in on goal but he was unable to square to Rodallega. It looked as though the winger had been clipped in the area and so it’s to his credit that he stayed on his feet and tried to find a pass.

Each side then made another alteration as Wes Hoolahan came on for Robert Snodgrass, with Ashkan Dejagah coming on for Fulham in place of Taarabt.

Sidwell was then presented with a great chance to put his side in front with a quarter of an hour remaining when he collected Kačaniklić’s pass in the area and side-stepped a challenge, only for Bassong to make a superb last-ditch tackle as the midfielder went to pull the trigger.

Rodallega was then adamant that he’d put Fulham ahead when he bundled in following a corner but the assistant referee ruled that it hadn’t crossed the line. The goalline technology replays showed that almost 90 per cent of the ball had crossed the line, but not all of it.

Both sides were going for the win and it was the away side who took control in the 87th minute through Parker. The ball had broken to him outside the box and, after beating one man, the former Norwich loanee crashed a right-footed effort into the corner of the net.

Four minutes of added time were announced and Meulensteen looked to add an extra defensive element to his side, as John Arne Riise came on for Kačaniklić, with his side successfully seeing the game out to earn a valuable win.
