Steve Marlet's first goal for Fulham was somewhat overshadowed by the defeat at the hands of Manchester United. With so many Fulham fans waiting for the club's record-signing to open his account, his goal proved to be little more than a consolation.
Speaking after the match, Marlet could not hide his disappointment but was keen to point out that he is desperate to start repaying his £11 million transfer fee.
"I'm very happy to score my first goal but I'm disappointed about the result.
"I was injured before so it was very difficult for me to play to my full potential, now that I am fit again, I will prove to everybody that I'm a good player. It's a new start for me" said Marlet.
Defeat on Sunday now puts Wednesday's match at Derby into a whole new light. With the Christmas points haul below target, Marlet emphasised the need to get back on track.
"It's very important to win the game against Derby. We lost today so we need to get more points to create a gap between us and the teams below. It's very difficult to play against a team that defends and tries to play on the counter-attack. We will just have to patient and the opportunities will come."
