Coventry 0 v 11 Fulham - Match report by Natalia Lodge
On a cold and windy day in the Midlands, Fulham Ladies found it hard to start and needed 15 minutes before they got into the game. Kim-Jerray-Silver played a through pass to Marianne Pettersen who dribbled round the Coventry goalkeeper to make it 1-0.
The next two goals came from very good passing play by Fulham Ladies. Sanchia Duncan scored the 2nd goal after a flick from Pettersen in the 26th minute. Rachel Yankey was taken off after 28 minutes receiving a knock on her calf with Kristy Moore replacing her. The 3rd goal was hammered in from 16 yards by Rachel McArthur in the 34th minute who received the ball from Kristy Moore after Fulham having lots of possession of the ball.
In the 42nd minute, Rachel Unitt scored directly from a well taken corner at the near post. A minute later Katie Chapman played a through ball to Kristy Moore, the Coventry goalkeeper misjudged the pass leaving Kristy Moore to slot home.
Fulham Ladies went into the break 5-0 up. Marianne Pettersen was replaced in the second half by Ronnie Gibbons due to twisting her ankle. Margunn Haugenes was pushed up the field and Ronnie deputised at the back.
Fulham took the lead again 4 minutes later when Haugenes shot at goal only for the goal-keeper to push the ball away straight to Haugenes who made no mistake.
In the 54th minute Kristy Moore scored her second goal when she hammered the ball from close range after a brilliant cross from Sanchia Duncan. Ten minutes later Haugenes scored her 2nd goal and Fulham's 8th from a one-two with Rachel McArthur. Kirsty Percival was then introduced for Lene Terp for the last 25 minutes. She is a young talented midfielder from the Reserve squad and showed with some excellent passes that she is one for the future.
Fulham's next goal did not come until the 83rd minute when a hard cross from Haugenes was tapped into the net by a Coventry defender. The last two goals came in quick succession, Sanchia Duncan scoring from a flick from Haugenes, into the left hand corner. McArthur then made it 11-0 from a Kristy Moore cross, finishing the rout.
Manager Gaute Haugenes commented "I am very pleased knowing we are through to the Quarter Finals against Everton, no disrespect to Coventry but we know Everton will be a tougher side to beat and the players will be working hard in training this week to prepare for Sunday's game".
