Fulham Ladies F.C. today announced its appointment of Kirsty Gallacher as Honorary President of its professional ladies team. SKY Presenter Kirsty will become the key figurehead of FFC Ladies, involving her support of both the Fulham team and also the game of ladies football from a grass roots level upwards.
Women's football is the fastest growing sport in the UK. However, there is still a significant need to raise its profile on a national basis. There is a strong need for role models and personalities within the game and the Club is confident that Kirsty's participation will enhance the recognition of the Ladies game, which will benefit all women's teams that play on a regular basis.
The Club's Chairman, Mohamed Al Fayed, is committed to the support of women's football, which has been proven by his significant investment in Fulham's ladies team. It is part of his vision for Fulham Ladies to become as successful as their male counterparts, by eventually challenging for honours on the European stage.
"It is my belief that Ladies football in this country can become as popular as it is in America and Scandinavia. Kirsty's involvement with the team could become a key turning point in the profile of the game and I am delighted that she has agreed to support it". Commented Mohamed Al Fayed.
"I am delighted to be joining Fulham Ladies Football Club as honorary President and look forward to being part of a team that is going from strength to strength." Added Kirsty.
