Former Fulham coach Ray Wilkins has praised keeper Edwin van der Sar for his performance against England last night.

Van der Sar kept England at bay with some superb saves in a 1-1 draw, and Wilkins was impressed.

"I thought he was outstanding," he said. "You have to say he made some tremendous saves and did tremendously well."

Steve Finnan also won praise after another excellent display for Ireland in their 2-0 victory over Russia.

He set up his country's second goal for Robbie Keane with a stunning left-footed cross on the turn.

Andy Melville helped Wales to a shock 1-1 draw against Argentina, although he lost his man for the visitors' equalising goal.

Meanwhile, Maik Taylor's Northern Ireland were thrashed 4-1 in Poland, with Taylor in goal from the start.
