Boro v Fulham odds

Monday 18 February 2002

Fulham passed their tricky Fifth Round test at the Bescot Stadium with flying colours on Saturday, and have been rewarded with a quarter-final showdown with West Brom. While a home tie would have been preferable, the Cottagers continue to avoid the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea and Jean Tigana must be confident of progressing even further along the road to Cardiff.

Before the hype of the FA Cup takes hold, however, attention returns to the Premiership and the match with Middlesbrough on Tuesday evening.

Boro, like Fulham, overcame their FA Cup Fifth Round opponents, but are still in a precarious position in the League and will not relish the arrival of Fulham, the last team to record a victory over the Teesiders. On that occasion back in January, Craven Cottage saw a 2-1 win for the home side and the Londoners are priced at 10/1 to leave the Riverside with the same result.

While the match against West Brom was far from inspirational, Barry Hayles' winning strike certainly was. He met Steve Finnan's cross perfectly to volley the Cottagers into the next round of the Cup. The Lambeth-born striker is 5/1 to net the first, rather than the last, Fulham goal at Middlesbrough.

Chelsea and QPR are not in action this week, so punters will have to do without the treble for the time being and settle for a bet on a Fulham win only, priced at 7/4.
