Arsene Wenger paid tribute to former Gunner Luis Boa Morte after his side's victory over Fulham at Highbury, saying: 'we respect him highly'.
Boa-Morte joined Arsenal from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 1997, but moved on to Southampton two years later, from where he joined The Cottagers.
The 24-year-old was a 56th-minute substitute against his former club but failed to make a real impact.
The Portuguese player had spoken kindly Wenger before the game and Wenger returned the compliment after the match.
"We bought him here from Portugal and we respect him very highly because he is a nice boy and a motivated guy who wants to do well, and I am glad for his career that he has turned it round.
"He couldn't get in the team here because Overmars was in front of him and since that he has done very well."
