Fulham Res 3-1 Brighton Res

From Motspur Park

With our FA Cup clash against Wycombe called off, a larger than predicted crowd gathered at Motspur Park to watch Fulham take on Brighton in this re-arranged friendly fixture.

With Brighton fielding Fulham old-boys Dirk Lehmann and Paul Brooker, this match had something of a reunion feel to it. However, all pleasantries were soon forgotten as Fulham wasted little time in taking the lead.

As early as the third minute, Kevin Betsy got his name on the score sheet after a neat Fulham move. Calum Willock did well to outpace his marker and latch on to a ball over the top. Betsy converted Willock's cross for a simple opener. 1-0 Fulham.

Any thoughts that an early goal was going to signal an opening of the floodgates were put to rest as for much of the half both teams were fairly evenly matched. The more direct approach from Brighton was being successfully countered by Fulham's passing game, however neither side managed to carve out any clear-cut scoring chances.

With Fulham looking to draw the play into midfield before utilising their pace up front, the Whites started to look more likely to get the second goal as the first half went on. The supporters didn't have long to wait as Kevin Betsy played a ball in from the right which was deflected past the visiting 'keeper for an own goal.

The second half saw Brighton look a far more solid unit. They managed to get back in contention on the 58 minute mark when a defensive mix-up saw the ball drift past Fulham 'keeper Flitney.

With Brighton looking to be in the ascendancy, the impressive Louie Fazackley put the game beyond the Seagulls' reach with undoubtedly the goal of the match. Receiving a defence-splitting pass, Fazackley lashed the ball home from 18 yards. A delightful finish.

With the last kick of the game, Paul Brooker was put through to a one-on-one with Flitney - fortunately for Fulham his effort was unconvincing.
