Steve Marlet paid off a sizeable chunk of his £11.5million transfer fee when he rescued Fulham's Premiership reputation in the FA Cup third round against Second Division Wycombe.
The Frenchman scored the crucial equaliser to earn a 2-2 draw with a header three minutes from time. It was only Marlet's second goal of the season after spending more than two months on the treatment table at Craven Cottage. But it gives Fulham a home replay next Tuesday and, just as importantly, helped end the Londoners' goal famine.
"He's not really at his best yet because he has been out so long," said Fulham manager Jean Tigana. "But he is good for the team and it was a very important goal. He needs one more month and then you will see him playing at a much different level."
