Sunderland v Fulham

Thursday 17 January 2002

After a rather sticky patch, things are beginning to look quite rosy at Fulham. Last week's 2-1 win over Boro moved the Cottagers up to ninth place in the Premiership, while the midweek FA Cup victory booked a 4th Round trip to York at the end of the month.

Last week's betting promotion left a number of punters a fair bit richer!

Louis Saha grabbed Fulham's first goal last week, but Steve Marlet popped up to claim the second just before half-time. It proved a crucial strike on two counts. It gave the home side a well-deserved lead, which they never relinquished, and also ensured that anyone who had backed Marlet to score the first Fulham goal had their bet settled as a winner!

And now for this week's promotion ..... Place a correct score bet on the Fulham v Sunderland match and if your prediction is correct, any winnings will be doubled*

As for the game, Sunderland boss Peter Reid is unlikely to relish the arrival of the London side. While Tigana has enjoyed a revival in fortunes, Sunderland have lost three of the last four, including a shock FA Cup exit at the hands of West Brom, and can take little comfort from the first meeting between these two sides, which they lost 2-0. A repeat performance at the Stadium of Light is priced at 12/1.

A £10 bet on Fulham to win 2- 0 would win you £120 (plus the extra from the offer!)

If Sunderland can sort their game out, the match does have the potential to be an entertaining affair, as the encounter at the Cottage was back in August, but ultimately the form Fulham have shown of late should see them through. They are 9/5 to win the game. A £10 bet would win you £18.

The weekly treble....

Fulham to win (obviously) 9/5
Chelsea to lose (what a bonus!) 4/1
QPR to lose (icing on the cake) 8/11

A £10 Bet would win you £231.
