Fulham winger Eddie Lewis has reached the last 8 of this years World Cup Finals after the USA defeated Mexico in Jeonju, South Korea earlier today.
Lewis made The USA's second goal with what has been described as "the cross of the tournament" effectively ending any hopes of a Mexico comeback.
Landon Donovan scored in the 65th minute with a header from just inside the 6-yard box after Lewis put in an inch perfect ball.
''It was all Eddie,'' Donovan said. ''It's hard to miss balls like that.''
President Bush called the U.S. team 4 hours before the game telling his side:
''The country is really proud of the team,'' he said as players listened on a speakerphone. ''A lot of people that don't know anything about soccer, like me, are all excited and pulling for you.''
Lewis and the USA now meet Germany in the last eight.
