Fancy a flutter?

Friday 1 March 2002

Craven Cottage will provide a welcome sanctuary for Fulham on Saturday afternoon after two successive defeats in the Premiership. Both defeats have come away from home, at the Riverside and at Highbury, with last week's 4-1 scoreline underlining the gap that exists between the top sides and the middle order.

Fulham, however, are a better team than their performance at Arsenal suggested, and have the chance to redeem themselves this weekend against Liverpool, another of this season's title-chasing sides.

In their encounter at Anfield in December, Fulham produced one of their best performances in the top flight, particularly in defence, to earn a respectable 0-0 draw. At home, Jean Tigana will hope to go one step further, with victory over Liverpool priced at 9/4.

Steed Malbranque was the star on that day, and has been a revelation since making his debut against Manchester United in August last year. His team-mates have certainly benefited from his creativity, but the French midfielder is also fairly useful in front of goal. Malbranque is 10/1 to score Fulham's first goal, adding to his current tally of 8.

Before their draw against Everton, Liverpool had recorded a 6-0 win at Ipswich and a 4-0 win at Elland Road, two results that gave their title ambitions a significant boost and show the size of Fulham's task on Saturday. If Fulham defend as they can do, however, they can snatch an important victory, and Marlet showed at Arsenal that he is more than capable of converting any opportunities that fall his way.

A £10 bet on Fulham to win 1-0, with Marlet grabbing the winning goal (priced at 33/1) would win you £330.

And now for the weekly treble...

Fulham to win 9/4

Chelsea to lose 9/4

QPR to lose 5/2

A £10 bet with Fulham Bet on the perfect set of results would win you £359.
