Southampton manager Gordon Strachan admitted that his side were lucky to escape with a point after Saturday's match at St Mary's.
French striker Steve Marlet continued his recent goalscoring form as he gave Fulham the lead on 7 minutes. However that lead only lasted a quarter of an hour as Rory Delap slammed a well-worked shot past Van der Sar.
Speaking after the match the Saints' manager said: "They were the better team than us.
"We had an off day and a lucky day. The only good thing about the day is that we collected another point.
"There were a lot of mistakes and I'm not going to say Paul Jones was to blame."
