Fulham sign Herrera

Thursday 30 May 2002

Fulham Football Club has today announced the signing of Goalkeeper Martin Herrera on a free transfer from Spanish Club Deportivo Alaves on a 3 year contract. The deal will keep him at Craven Cottage until the summer of 2005.

The 31 year-old Argentinian was brought up in the tough Boca Juniors youth factory, and had already gained experience at Atlanta, Toluca of Mexico and Ferrocarril Oeste, before going to Spain, where he was part of the Alaves side that reached the 2001 Uefa Cup final.

This afternoon Martin Herrera said:

"I am very happy to have signed for Fulham Football Club. I believe that they are a side with great ambition and flair with a fantastic future ahead of them. I shall enjoy being part of the Club's second season in the premiership and look forward to playing football in England."

The Club's Acting MD Mark Collins commented on the signing:

"We are pleased to welcome Martin to Fulham, we believe he has a great future at the Club and that he will be a fantastic addition to the squad".
