Charlton Ladies 1 Fulham Ladies 1
It was a special night at The Valley last night where Charlton Women's team marked their debut at the Clubs famous stadium taking on Fulham Ladies in what was a thriller of a game.
Last month Charlton became the first club to take points off Fulham since they became professional in 2000.
A highly encouraging crowd of 1,840 turned up to watch one of the biggest games so far this season.
Two minutes into the game, a long pass from Rachel Unitt was flicked on by Margunn Haugenes leaving Kristy Moore one on one with the Goalkeeper with Moore shooting over the goal.
After that, both teams created good goalscoring opportunities after crosses and corners but fantastic goalkeeping from Astrid Johannessen and Pauline Cope miraculously sent both teams to the dressing room 0-0 at half-time.
Both teams came out in the second half determined for a win and Fulham changed from a
4-4-2 to a 4-3-3 formation. The game opened up even more but unfortunately it was Charlton who took the lead in the 77th minute with a great strike from Midfielder Grainne Kierans.
Fulham put Charlton under immense pressure after this and Una Nwajei hit the crossbar with a fantastic header a minute later. Manager Gaute Haugenes pushed the players up front leaving only Astrid Johannessen and Centre Back Mark Phillip in their own half. The rest of the Fulham players worked tirelessly to keep their unbeaten record intact and it paid off when Rachel Yankey equalised with just 40 seconds from the final whistle.
Manager Gaute Haugenes said after the game "The atmosphere during the game was really good and to play in a stadium like The Valley contributed to enhancing the profile of the women's game. I also think it was a good performance from both teams and a good advertisement for women's football. Unfortunately we didn't manage to win the game but a late equaliser from Rachel Yankey gave us a well deserved point".
