Injury Update

Wednesday 25 August 2004

Steed Malbranque is progressing well in his recovery from his groin strain. He has now begun some low level activity and is not getting any irritation which is a very positive sign, but it with this kind of problem it is essential that we don't try and get him to do too much too soon.

Of course, once Steed is over the actual injury he will still have considerable work to do on his fitness as he missed the whole of pre-season. Consequently he will not be available for several weeks yet.

Facundo Sava has continued to make good progress from his medial knee ligament injury. He has suffered a small irritation recently which resulted in a minor set back. But we have now overcome this and we are looking to have him back in training in seven to ten days.

Lee Clark has also continued to progress extremely well in his rehab work, and we are hopeful that he will have returned to full training within the next four weeks.

Elvis Hammond irritated his groin injury on his return to training recently. This was only a minor problem and he should be phased back into full training over the next two weeks.

Sean Doherty suffered a grade one quad strain in a recent reserve game but has recovered well and will be available very soon. Dean Leacock was unavailable at the weekend after suffering some bone bruising in training. We don't expect this to keep him out for long, but at the same time we don't want to push him back too quickly as this may end up keeping him out for longer.
