Fulham Football Club has today announced the signing of Senegalese International Papa Bouba Diop from French club Lens on a four year deal for an undisclosed fee.
The 26 year old defensive midfielder enjoyed a spell in Swiss football with Grasshoppers before his move to the French club in January 2002. 6'3" Diop grabbed the world's attention when he scored the goal that beat France at the opening match of the 2002 World Cup finals; he made 25 league appearances last season scoring three goals and found the target twice in Lens' Uefa Cup campaign.
Manager Chris Coleman commented:
'I have already said how important these last few weeks have been to the Club in terms of our signings, and I am more than delighted to have been able to secure the services of some quality players.
'It was important that we made some new additions to the current squad and I am confident that the players we have signed will prove to be great additions. We have a tremendous team spirit at Fulham and proven playing ability at the highest level, so I am more than looking forward to the start of next season.'
