Fulham Football Club has today announced that Edwin van der Sar has signed a contract extension that will see him at Club until the summer of 2006.
The Club is delighted that it has extended the services of one of its most high profile and influential players. Club Secretary Lee Hoos said:
'It is important to maintain the continuity within the squad at this crucial time in the season, and to enable the manager to plan for the future with a strong and committed group of players.'
This afternoon Chris Coleman commented: 'Ed is a very influential player for us both on and off the pitch and has proved himself as a real leader when taking the Captain's armband. During the transfer window the media speculated that our best players were expected to leave, but we have managed secure deals with two key players and that shows the commitment of the Chairman and the board to the future potential of this Club.'
Edwin van der Sar said: 'I have enjoyed my time at Fulham since I joined in 2001 and my family are happy and settled here. It is important that I play at the highest level to maintain my national team ambition and I know that the Chairman and the Manager have high aspirations for the Club.
'We have had an unsettled start to the season, but with players returning from injury and key player's like Luis pledging their future to the team, the prospects are positive for Fulham and I am happy to be part of that.'
