Columbus Crew 2-1 Fulham

Fulham's tour of the US got off to a losing start after the Whites were pipped at the post by Columbus Crew. The winning goal came late in the encounter when Crew midfielder, Domenic Mediate, took full advantage of a mix up between Jaroslav Drobny and Zesh Rehman.

The home side opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Marcus Storey got on the end of a cross from Szetela and side footed put past Drobny. The lead, however, failed to hold until half time when Luis Boa Morte's centre was inadvertently turned in by Crew defender Chris Wingert.

The flow of the second half was interrupted by a series of substitutions from both sides. Nonetheless, the best chance of the half fell to Ahmad Elrich, who put the ball wide after he was sent clean through on goal.

The Whites started the match with Collins John and Heidar Helguson in attack and the two looked a lively pairing up front. On 16 minutes John managed to find space and fire a shot goals wards, his effort clipped the crossbar.

Soon after it was Helguson's turn to try his luck just before the half hour mark. The Icelandic international fired wide with his first effort on goal on 28 minutes, the only two minutes later he placed another shot firmly into the arms of Walker in the Crew goal.

Former Crew hero Brian McBride made his long awaited appearance in the second half when he replaced Helguson. But with the game somewhat slowing in the second period, McBride was only able to hit the target on two occasions.
