Fulham's Michael Timlin captained the Republic of Ireland Under-21 side to their second Madeira Cup win after beating Portugal 2-1 in the final of the invitational tournament on Friday.

The young Fulham midfielder reclaimed the armband after missing out Ireland's match against Finland, having previously been sent off, and helped his team to a memorable victory over the favourites.

Ricardo Batista, in goal for Portugal, produced some fine saves but was helpless to prevent both of Ireland's goals.
