Fulham Football Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Bryan Ruiz, from Dutch side FC Twente on a four year deal, with an option for a further year, for an undisclosed fee which will see the player at the Club until at least the summer of 2015.
Ruiz attracted a lot of interest from many top European clubs during this transfer window which including a last-minute approach from another Premier League side.
The 26-year-old attacking midfielder was born in Alajuela in Costa Rica and he has scored 9 international goals in 43 appearances for his country.
He made his senior debut for his home town club, Alajuelense, in 2003 before moving to Belgium to sign for Gent in 2006. He spent three seasons at Gent, scoring 26 goals in 79 appearances before his move to FC Twente in 2009 where his impressive goal scoring record continued having netted 39 goals in 61 appearances for the Dutch club.
Speaking from Fulham’s Motspur Park training ground this evening, Bryan Ruiz said:
“I’m really happy to be joining Fulham Football Club and playing under Martin Jol who is a manager I admire from his time managing in Holland for Ajax. I chose to come to Fulham because it feels more personal than other clubs I have visited.
I’m looking forward to meeting up with the whole squad when most of the players return from the international break and getting to work straight away with the team in preparation for some important fixtures.”
Martin Jol added:
“Bryan Ruiz was always our intended target. He is a player who continues to attract interest from other top clubs so naturally I’m very happy, on this final day of the transfer window, that he has decided to join Fulham.”
