Lauri Dalla Valle scored on his debut for his loan side Crewe Alexandra as they secured an impressive 0-2 victory away to promotion chasing Doncaster Rovers.
Dalla Valle’s strike after five minutes was the quickest ever goal by an Alex debutant and the young Finn went on to play the full 90 minutes for Steve Davis’ men.
Kerim Frei was involved in a thrilling contest in south London as his Cardiff City team went down 5-4 to Charlton Athletic at The Valley. The Welsh side took control of the game when they went two goals up, only for the Addicks to hit five in response. Two stoppage time efforts from City ensured a frenetic finale, but they were unable to find the equaliser. Kerim started the match and was withdrawn on 65 minutes.
Bristol City suffered another loss as they went down to a 2-0 defeat by Birmingham City at St Andrews. Matthew Briggs played the full 90 minutes at left-back for the Robins who will be looking to bounce back when they welcome Charlton to Ashton Gate on Sunday.
There were defeats too for Dan Burn and Neil Etheridge as Yeovil Town and Bristol Rovers both lost. Burn played the entirety of Yeovil’s 1-3 home defeat by second-placed Stevenage Town, while Etheridge was in goal as the 10-man Pirates were narrowly beaten 2-3 at home by Southend United.
Marcus Bettinelli kept goal for Dartford but there was nothing he could do as a fine strike by Forest Green’s Yan Klukowski inflicted a 0-1 home defeat on the Darts.
Richard Peniket was introduced as a 79th minute substitute as Kidderminster Harriers secured a valuable away point at Woking with a 2-2 draw.
