Australia advanced to the Semi-Finals of the AFC U19 Championship at the weekend after defeating Jordan 3-0 and thereby securing their place at the U20 World Cup to be held in Turkey next year.
The free-scoring Corey Gameiro bagged a treble to take his tally for the tournament to six goals in four games for the Qantas Young Socceroos, while winger Ryan Williams was also in the side.
Gameiro grabbed his first of the match when he confidently dispatched a penalty on 10 minutes after Adam Taggart had been fouled in the area. It was a firm spot-kick that proved too powerful for the goalkeeper, who had dived the right way.
The young Fulham striker doubled his tally early in the second half when he had space to dribble into the area before firing home to put Australia is complete control of the Quarter-Final tie.
And Gameiro ensured he’d be leaving with the match ball when he confidently slotted home his third goal on 83 minutes.
The Young Socceroos now face Iraq in the Semis, with the winners then taking on either Uzbekistan or the Korea Republic in the Final.
