Fulham Under-18s scored an impressive 6-0 victory over Middlesbrough at Motspur Park on Saturday.
A Muamer Tankovic hat-trick, Pat Roberts’ brace and Lyle Della Verde’s effort secured the three points for Steve Wigley’s side in comprehensive style.
Academy Director Huw Jennings was in attendance as usual and was delighted with what he saw from our young side.
“It was very, very comfortable for us today,” Huw told fulhamfc.com after the game. “Once we got the advantage there was really only one team in it. We played some very good football but we weren’t really tested to be fair.
“It was nice to keep a clean sheet because Steve was saying that was our first clean sheet of the season so that, as much as anything, is particularly important.
“We started off with some excellent interplay between Emerson Hyndman, George Williams and Muamer Tankovic, which led to a corner. The corner was whipped in by Jordan Evans and Tankovic headed home for 1-0.
“That first goal was after only about 10 minutes and a few minutes later Tankovic raced through from a Hyndman through ball and his shot was deflected away for a corner but, in his process, the ‘keeper has brought him down. So the referee gave a penalty which Tankovic converted for 2-0.
“About 10 minutes later we grabbed a counter attacking goal. The ball was fed out to Pat Roberts wide on the halfway line and he advances 30 or 40 metres, cuts inside onto his left foot and unleashes an unstoppable shot. It was a terrific finish for 3-0. That was how it stayed until half-time despite constant pressing from us as their ‘keeper made a few saves.
“The fourth goal came when Lyle got on the end of a George Williams cross after approximately 50 minutes. We then kept them under constant pressure and got another goal around quarter of an hour later when we were awarded another penalty which Tankovic converted for his hat-trick.
“Then on about 80 minutes, Williams showed good work again down the left-hand side and crosses the ball in for Roberts to side-foot home to make it six.”
While the goalscorers grab the headlines, Huw was quick to praise 16-year-old Hyndman who pulled a lot of the strings in the middle of the park for Fulham on Saturday.
“Emerson Hyndman was terrific today,” Jennings said. “He sat in centre midfield and controlled the game.”
