Dan Burn won the battle of the loanees on Saturday, scoring the third goal as his Yeovil Town side defeated Marcello Trotta’s Brentford 3-0 at Huish Park.
It was the Glovers’ fifth consecutive victory in the npower League One – form which now sees them outside the Play-Off places on goal difference alone. They were 2-0 up going into the half-time break – at which point Trotta was introduced – through a Paddy Madden strike and Ed Upson’s screamer, before Burn volleyed home a sweet left-footed effort on 84 minutes to round off a comprehensive victory for Gary Johnson’s team.
In the npower Championship, David Stockdale kept a clean sheet as Hull City held on to record a 1-0 victory at Millwall. The Tigers took the lead with just 45 seconds played when David Meyler found the net, with Stockdale proving ever-reliable when called into action – most notably with 10 minutes left to play when he did well to deny James Henry.
James Musa played 90 minutes as Hereford United came from two goals down to snatch a point at home to Southport in the Blue Square Premier. Shaun Whalley and Neill Byrne had put the visitors seemingly in control of the match, before late efforts from Ryan Bowman and Joshua O’Keefe earned the Bulls a point.
Marcus Bettinelli was in goal for Dartford as they had a day to forget against Mansfield Town. Bettinelli had to pick the ball out of the net on no less than five occasions, although the scoreline could have been worse, with the young stopper making a string of impressive saves.
Richard Peniket was thrown on for the last 14 minutes of AFC Telford United’s defeat by Cambridge United but the young striker couldn’t force an equaliser as his side lost 2-1.
