In the Hyundai A-League, Corey Gameiro’s Wellington Phoenix went down to Newcastle Jets 2-1. Adam Taggart had given the Jets the lead on 18 minutes and former Sunderland and Leeds United striker Michael Bridges extended the advantage before half-time.
Phoenix fought back, though, with Gameiro playing a key role in their goal when he intercepted a poor back pass to find Louis Fenton. His effort was saved but it fell to Jeremy Brockie to tuck away the rebound, although it turned out to be little more than a consolation for the New Zealand side.
Yeovil Town’s nine-match unbeaten run in the npower League One came to an end as goals from Billy Clifford and Freddie Sears gave Colchester United a 2-0 victory at the Community Stadium.
Dan Burn came close to reducing the deficit with the score at 2-0, but saw his header well kept out by U’s keeper Sam Walker as the Glovers remain in the Play-Off places despite the defeat.

Marcello Trotta and Ryan Williams were unused substitutes for Brentford and Gillingham respectively as the Bees secured a 2-1 win over Crawley Town, and the Gills went down to Oxford United by a solitary goal.
