On Wednesday 16th January, Fulham Football Club Foundation celebrated the graduation of young people from their Barclays Spaces for Sports ‘My Future Goal’ programme. With friends and family watching, participants were awarded certificates and a Fulham FC Home Shirt to congratulate them on their achievements throughout the project.
32 participants took part in the ‘My Future Goal’ programme on this occasion, with 18 completing an award in Employability and 20 completing their Community Sports Leaders Award. With some of the young people going on to internships at Surrey and London FA, Barclays Apprenticeship Scheme positions and matchday work at Fulham Football Club, the end results for the participants were definitely worth their while.
Throughout this cohort, ‘My Future Goal’ has been featured on BBC’s Match of the Day and Barclays’ Make a Difference Day. In addition, some participants even attended BBC’s Elstree Studios to take part in a work experience day and further their understanding of careers in the media.
Launched at Craven Cottage last April, the three-year partnership between Fulham Football Club Foundation and Barclays Spaces for Sports sees the two organisations collaborating to provide a football and sport employability development programme for local people. Targeting young people not in education, employment or training (NEETS), it aims to increase employment opportunities for 300 16-25 year olds by helping them develop life skills such as communication and team work, as well as giving them work-related training.
Steven Day, Chief Executive, Fulham Football Club Foundation, commented:
“This event was a fantastic ending to a very successful cohort. It was lovely to hear how much of an impact the programme made on these young peoples’ lives - especially from their parents.
“It was a chance for the participants to reflect on their achievements over the course of the programme and also a chance for us to congratulate them on their efforts.”
The next cohort for the ‘My Future Goal’ programme will start at Craven Cottage in February.
