Charles Banya helped Woking to a vital victory in the Skrill Conference Premier on Tuesday evening, as three goals in 15 second-half minutes saw off the challenge of Dartford.
Scott Rendell almost headed his side into the lead when he met a Banya corner in the first minute, before debutant Jack Marriott – on loan from Ipswich Town – fired a powerful effort just wide of the post from some way out.
Rendell saw two more chances come and go, the second of which was created by Banya, with Dartford’s first real opportunity arriving in the 22nd minute when they saw three shots blocked in quick succession following a corner.
In the second half, Rendell saw a goal ruled out for offside but the Kingfield crowd didn’t have to wait too long for the deadlock to break, as Marriott got on the end of a diagonal pass to poke the ball beyond the goalkeeper on 63 minutes.
After the Darts had squandered a couple of chances to equalise, the influential Banya set up Marriott for another shooting opportunity but the striker saw his attempt well saved. He was involved for the second goal in the 75th minute, though, as his square ball was converted by Rendell.
And two minutes later the game was sewn up when Joe McNerney flicked home Josh Payne’s free-kick. Banya and Rendell could have added some further gloss to the scoreline but saw their efforts fly wide, and it mattered little as the Cards moved to within a point of Dartford in the Conference relegation spots.
