Fulham First XI

Whites stopper David Stockdale reveals his footballing firsts in this week’s Fulham First XI.

First professional match attended

It was a Leeds United game. We used to get free tickets when I played for Leeds City Boys. I was probably about 11. I couldn’t tell you who they were playing or what competition it was in.

First club supported

Leeds. They were my local team.

First boots

All I can remember is that they were Umbro. My first goalkeeper gloves were Puma Cell ones that were too big for me. Old school.

First club joined

Wortley Boys. I would have been about six. I wasn’t a goalkeeper back then, I used to be a really good striker, believe it or not.

First manager

Tony Carney at Wortley Boys.

First match for Fulham

Fulham versus Everton in September 2009. We won 2-1. Tim Cahill scored for Everton, and Paul Konchesky and Duffer scored for us.

First card

My first booking was playing for York City against Blackpool. I’ve had a few yellow cards for supposedly time wasting over the years.

First shirt number

I think I wore number nine when I was a striker at Wortley Boys. These days I wear number 13 at Fulham.

First footballing hero

Even though I’m a Leeds fan and he played for Manchester United, it was Peter Schmeichel.

First programme

I think I’ve still got it from that first Leeds game I went to. It was a choice between a programme or a burger at half-time.

First friend at Fulham

Danny Murphy. I suppose you could say he took me under his wing a bit.
