Marcello Trotta was on target again as Brentford secured a 3-1 victory over Bristol City at Griffin Park on Tuesday evening.
An Aden Flint own goal gave the Bees the lead early on in the Sky Bet League One encounter, although the visitors levelled minutes later through Karleigh Osbourne. But Brentford went into half-time with a two goal advantage courtesy of an Alan Judge goal and Trotta’s low finish.
Trotta’s strike was his 10th of the season, and sixth in his last eight outings, and the striker was substituted to a good reception in the 74th minute as the Bees remained top of the table with the win.
Elsewhere in the division, Stephen Arthurworrey played 90 minutes as Tranmere Rovers lost 2-1 at home to Rotherham United.
Two goals from Alex Revell did the damage, although Andy Robinson’s stoppage time goal set up a nervy finale for the visitors. Rovers drop to 18th in the table following the narrow defeat.
In League Two, Marcus Bettinelli was in goal for Accrington Stanley as they leapfrogged Bristol Rovers in the table with a 1-0 victory at the Memorial Stadium.
Bettinelli made a decent save to deny Kaid Mohamed but the stopper was otherwise largely untroubled in the game, which meant a Peter Murphy strike three minutes into added on time secured the points for Stanley.
Meanwhile, Cauley Woodrow entered the action as a 72nd minute substitute as Southend United drew 1-1 at Dagenham & Redbridge.
The Shrimpers had taken the lead through Kevan Hurst’s scuffed effort early in the second half but Luke Norris ensured the spoils would be shared when he netted 15 minutes later.
