Tiago Casasola has a busy summer ahead of him after he and his Argentina team arrived in New Zealand this week for the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Having won the South American Youth Football Championship earlier this year, Argentina qualified automatically for this summer’s tournament, and Casasola is delighted to be part of the travelling squad.
“I’m really happy,” he told fulhamfc.com. “It’s a big opportunity for me and I have to take advantage of it. We have a really good team and we have to produce a great World Cup campaign.
“It would be incredible to win. We all share the same dream and motives and we all have to do everything we can to reach our objectives.
“It’s a very competitive competition but we have a good group and we will have to do everything right to have a good tournament.”
Argentina have been drawn in Group B alongside Panama, Ghana and Austria, and Casasola knows his side will have to be at their best to qualify for the knock-out stages.
“They are going to be tough opponents,” he admitted. “Hopefully we can produce good performances and qualify, but we will have to prepare properly and be ready for them.
“I don’t know a lot about New Zealand as a place, but it seems a nice country, a very organised country who have prepared themselves well for the World Cup, so we have everything in place for us.”
After this summer the former Boca Juniors man will have competed in some the world’s top international competitions for his age group, and the 19-year-old says it can only help him progress at Fulham.
He stated: “It’s very important for my future development but my head is focused on doing well for my country and for Fulham, starting pre-season and having a good season next year. I want to achieve all my objectives with Fulham.”
