Shrewsbury Bow Out

Jack Grimmer played the full 90 minutes as Shrewsbury Town bowed out of the Emirates FA Cup at the hands of Manchester United, while Larnell Cole was introduced at half-time against his former club.

The visitors took the lead in the Fifth Round tie at Greenhous Meadow through former Fulham man Chris Smalling. The United captain struck a shot into the ground that bounced over the dive of Shrews goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler.

It was 2-0 in first half stoppage time when Juan Mata curled a fine free-kick over the wall, but there was more than a hint of controversy about it as two United players were in an offside position as it was taken.

Jesse Lingard made it three just after the hour mark when he got on the end of a neat Ander Herrera pass to poke home.

Shrewsbury’s best chance came in the 87th minute when Grimmer sent over a perfect cross to the unmarked Abu Ogogo, but his header sailed way off target.
