Fresh from signing on loan from Sturm Graz on Friday, Michael Madl pulled on his Fulham shirt for the first time in a training match at Motspur Park on Saturday morning.
Madl was delighted to have got straight into the thick of it, getting to know his teammates and starting alongside Richard Stearman at centre-back for one team.
"It was a really great feeling,” said Madl. “To meet all the guys and to play with them today was nice.
“I got to train for the first time today and got to see all the qualities of the players. There is a completely different speed to the game here and I want to learn fast and learn from my teammates.”
Having started at the back, Madl transitioned to a defensive midfield role alongside Scott Parker in the second portion of the game and insists he is perfectly comfortable playing either position.
"I have always played either of these positions,” he states. “Some coaches like to play me at centre-back and others like to play me in defensive midfield. I can play both but I have been playing centre-back for Sturm Graz in recent times.
“The coach here wants to play good football, with pressing and good passing play. I think this style of play will suit me well.”
A Matt Smith brace for one team was enough to see them claim victory despite Tom Cairney pulling a goal back. Madl acknowledged that despite it being a friendly match it was nice to get a feel for the pace of the game.
"We now have one week to train and I have to learn fast because it's a completely different style of football from the football in Austria,” Madl added. “I am so happy to be here and I just want to learn fast.
“I have always heard London is a great city and I am here for the very first time. The training ground is perfect with great pitches and all the things that I will need to prepare for the game.”
