Emerson Hyndman played the full 90 minutes as the US Under-23s earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw away to Colombia in a 2016 Olympic Qualifying Play-Off First Leg on Friday.
In scorching heat and humidity, Luis Gill put the visitors in front in the fifth minute when he finished off a sweeping move. But Colombia levelled in the 68th minute when Juan Fernando Quintero converted from the penalty spot after Kellyn Acosta had fouled Rafael Santos Borre in the box. The Second Leg takes place on Tuesday.
Elsewhere, Nikolay Bodurov gave away a penalty – which Cristiano Ronaldo missed – as Bulgaria won 1-0 in a friendly in Portgual.
Marcelinho marked his debut by giving the visitors the lead in the first half in Leiria, poking home from close range.
