Head Coach Reaction

Slaviša Jokanović was pleased to end an underwhelming season in positive fashion against Bolton Wanderers, but knows there is plenty of hard work still to be done.

Despite dominating the game, Fulham had to wait until the 77th minute to secure a 1-0 win courtesy of Tom Cairney’s curling strike, but Jokanović was glad his team could give the home supporters something to smile about.

“It’s a good way to finish the season,” he admitted. “We played a good game and got a clean sheet, which is incredible for us.

“At the end [of the season] it’s always important to win the game, and we offered our supporters something a little bit different to what they’ve had in the past, especially in the last few months.

“We played today without any pressure, and Bolton did too. It’s not a typical Championship game, it was a little bit softer. I was optimistic and I expected that we were going to score a goal, and at the end we scored.

“It’s a good way to finish this season which is behind us, and now we can start thinking about next season.

“We have to be completely different, because Fulham is a historical team and they deserve to be fighting for a different target to what we were fighting for this year.

“We finished in 20th position, but we were talking about fighting for top six. We need to be ready to build a more competitive team than what we have in our hands this season.”

Fulham barely gave the visitors a sniff in the lunchtime kick-off at Craven Cottage, but while Jokanović was satisfied with how the afternoon concluded, his sights are now firmly on other things.

“It’s good for us to finish with a clean sheet, it’s good for us to finish with three points,” he stated. “But I haven’t only been here an hour and a half, I’ve been here for four months.

“I know Fulham very well, I know my players very well, and they didn’t surprise me, and they didn’t surprise me in the past so much.

“I'm happy because we had the opportunity to give something back to our supporters, but now it’s over and it’s time to start working on what is in front of us. We need to have a completely different target for next year.”
