It was a quick turnaround for Lucas Piazon as the Brazilian only signed for Fulham on loan from Chelsea late on Friday and less than 24-hours later he was back in a white shirt playing against his parent club.
The attacking midfielder entered the game on the hour-mark and was pleased to be reunited with his teammates from last season.
“It feels nice to put the shirt on again,” Piazon told fulhamfc.com after the game, “It was my first day back at the Club today and it was nice to see everyone back and to be with them again was nice.
“It was a good feeling and to be back with them on the pitch again was nice, it was good.
“I had to be at Motspur Park at 1:30pm today so I got in a bit earlier to make sure I could get in and see everyone before I got changed to come to the match here.”
In what was a busy couple of days for Piazon he found himself facing the team he had been training with all week but he was glad he could get back to playing the Fulham way.
“That was the first time I have ever played against Chelsea, I wasn’t even allowed until late on Friday night when Chelsea spoke to Fulham and said that I could play.
“Of course when I signed on Friday I really wanted to play, to be involved and get out on the pitch and be with my Fulham teammates again.
“It was a tough test, Fulham have had some busy weeks building up to this and last week was really busy I understand, so I think the legs were a little bit tired.
“It’s good to get minutes and to improve our fitness, this is the most important thing for now. We must get ready for our trip to Austria and keep the hard work going,” said Piazon.
The 23-year-old played 29 times for Fulham last season, scoring six goals and assisting four times for Slavisa Jokanović’s team.
“I am used to the way we play football here,” he added, “Obviously I spent all of last season here so I know what the Head Coach wants and I know the players really well as well so I felt comfortable out there, it’s just the legs were gone a little bit but we will get there.
“We travel to Austria on Tuesday, we will get back to work on Monday and spend Tuesday travelling. The hard work is coming and we are going to be ready for the first game of the Championship season.
“It’s getting closer to that first game and the players are getting fitter and we are all getting more minutes so it’s important. We have a couple of games next week and these friendly games are important to us.”
Speaking on the motivation to return to Craven Cottage this season Piazon spoke of the ambition and desire to help Fulham return to the Premier League.
“Last season we had a good season at Fulham, I had a good season as well and I felt pretty comfortable at the Club and I believe the Club can achieve good things this season, so of course I wanted to stay.”
