Steven Sessegnon’s fantastic league debut has seen him named Man of the Match by the Fulham faithful.
After injury ruled him out of our opening two fixtures, Sessegnon was handed a first Championship appearance by Scott Parker at right-back, having impressed the Whites Head Coach throughout pre-season.
He was called into action in the opening stages, making a brave block to prevent Lewis O’Brien’s shot from becoming goalbound.
An early booking could have unsettled a less focused player, but the 19-year-old didn’t let the yellow card after quarter of an hour affect his game, playing with a calmness that we’ve come to expect from the Sessegnon family.
In the second half he showed off his attacking capabilities, too. First he saw a vicious shot beaten away by the Huddersfield Town goalkeeper, before he played a key role in the winner, managing to keep the ball in and sending over the cross which was eventually worked to Ivan Cavaleiro.
Throughout the 90 minutes Sessegnon had 88 touches of the ball, won three tackles, made two interceptions, played a key ball, and had a pass success rate of 88 per cent.
All that contributed to the fans’ decision to vote Sessegnon as our best player, with 54.2 per cent of supporters agreeing to that fact. Match winner Cavaleiro came second with 16.5 per cent of the votes, ahead of fellow goal scorer Aleksandar Mitrović who claimed 7.2 per cent.
