Fulham FC Foundation has been working closely with Melcombe Primary School since the beginning of the academic year, running after school clubs for their pupils as well as organising and training all of their football teams.
To reward the recent success of Melcombe’s Year 5/6 Girls football team in the Mayor’s Cup football tournament, for primary schools in the Hammersmith and Fulham borough, the Foundation invited members of the team to be ballpersons for the fixture against Liverpool.
On top of this, the players were also invited to come on to the pitch at half-time to showcase the Mayor’s Cup trophy in front of the Whites faithful.
34 teams entered the competition at the beginning of the year and, after a long season, Melcombe finished as the winners.
Through the group stages, Melcombe managed to win seven of their eight games, drawing the other. In the league they scored 23 goals, conceding only six times.
The finals day included the top eight teams from the league, and Melcombe progressed by winning 2-0 in the Quarter-Finals, and 2-1 in the Semis to secure their place in the Final.
In the Final against St Stephen's C of E Primary School, Melcombe player Patience scored a free-kick and lobbed the goalkeeper to record a 2-0 victory and the first ever Girls Mayor’s Cup success for the school.
From all of us here at Fulham FC and Fulham FC Foundation – well done Melcombe Primary!
