The Lowdown: Aston Villa U23s

Friday 18 October 2019 11:12

The Situation:

The Under-23s head back to Villa Park for the second time in as many seasons on Monday as they prepare for their first game back in PL2 action since the international break.

This marks a busy spell for the Young Whites in the lead up to the conclusion of the Trophy Group campaign and a spate of PL Cup games in the coming two weeks.

The hosts sit one place above Fulham in the league with a game fewer played. The last game in league action ended in an impressive 4-1 win over Manchester United but were well-beaten by Exeter City in PL Cup action.

The opposite turn of fortune is the case in Mark Pembridge and Colin Omogbehin’s side. An excellent win in the PL Cup against Everton is tainted by a defeat to Middlesbrough in the PL2 and a narrow defeat to MK Dons in the Trophy.

He said:

Jaydn Mundle-Smith is keen to use the Everton game as a springboard to starting a run of form.

“Coming off the back of a 2-1 win, I think the team will be in good stead to keep the momentum going and get a good run going.

“The MK Dons game was a tough one to take as I feel we should have come away with at least a point, but the team showed good character against an established EFL side.

“I still feel that the team needs to be more clinical, taking opportunities is vital against top sides starting with Villa on Monday."

FFCtv will not have an available stream for this fixture as this is an away clash. The game against Sunderland on Friday at Motspur Park will be streamed via the website.
