Second half strikes from Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson and Jayden Harris saw the U23s' unbeaten run extended.

Peter Grant’s Under-23s beat Middlesbrough away 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon. Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson found the top corner at the start of the second half, and Jayden Harris secured the winner with a cross that found the inside of the net.

This was a rearranged fixture from December due to a frozen pitch , but conditions were still difficult throughout the 90 minutes with wind and rain battering the pitch.

Fulham started on the front foot winning a free kick in the second minute. Sean Kavanagh took it with his left, the ball just missing the crossbar by inches as a warning shot for Boro.

The ball was flying all over the pitch with the wind taking it in any direction, Thorteinsson was able to bring the ball down left of the area and fired towards goal, that too floated over the bar.

Two minutes later Middlesbrough had a good opportunity, the ball was crossed into Fulham’s box and Luke Armstrong received the ball on the six-yard line.

Aron Davies made a crucial block, it was not the only one he had to make as the Welshman had a sterling performance throughout.

The hosts were shooting from distance, but with the wind behind them, Dael Fry’s effort easily cleared that bar.

The Whites nearly put their noses in front 30 minutes into the match, they were having a strong spell. Harris drove into left the box, received the ball and rifled a shot across goal, a deflection took it inches past the post.

Fulham recovered possession a minute later, Isaac Pearce had a similar chance from the other side but the winger dragged his shot wide.

Five minutes before the break Tyrese Francois curled a corner in, Rob Atkinson shot from close range, but didn’t get the connection he needed.

Boro broke downfield, Liam Hegarty shot from 25-yards out, the ball wobbled on target and Luca Ashby-Hammond made a fantastic diving save to keep the match square.

The Whites came out of the blocks for the second half with Thorsteinsson opening the scoring two minutes in. From outside the area, he cut onto his right and found the top corner, replicating his trademark goal for the Whites.

In the 55th minute Harris made it 2-0 fortuitously. He went to cross the ball into a packed box, no one could get on the end of the ball. The cross flew past the keeper, off the left post and into the back of the net to double the Whites’ advantage.

After the second goal went in the Whites never looked back, they had the better chances from there on in. Davies had a shot blocked from close range, as did Michael Elstone.

Fulham were able to see out the match, returning to London with all three points. That win makes it nine matches unbeaten, winning seven of those.
