Fulham Under-23s came from behind to secure an excellent 3-1 victory in Manchester on Friday night, turning the game on its head.

Fulham Turn The Tables

Fulham Under-23s came from behind to secure an excellent 3-1 victory in Manchester this evening, turning the game on its head.

Tahith Chong’s stunning free kick gave the hosts the lead before two quick goals from Mattias Käit and Elijah Adebayo were topped off by Stephen Humphrys’s second half strike.

Fulham started the better side and dominated possession. Humphrys and Adebayo took a few minutes to sync each other’s wavelengths.

The first big chance of the game fell to Fulham after some pressure. Matt O’Riley’s corner was met by skipper Aron Davies, his header skewed wide.

United hit back and created their first opening after quarter of an hour. Nishan Burkart slid an inviting pass across the six-yard box but Chong couldn’t connect. Moments later, Aidan Barlow fed Angel Gomes but George Wickens came out to make the block.

Jaydn Mundle-Smith embarked on a run down the left, his cross made its way to Harvey Elliott whose crisp drive was blocked well by Lee O’Connor.

United took the lead in an unstoppable fashion. Chong stepped up to bend a delicious free kick into the top corner.

Fulham responded well and looked a threat from set pieces. Another O’Riley corner was glanced home by Mattias Käit to level the scores. The game was turned on its head three minutes later. A sumptuous pass from Harvey Elliott set away Adebayo on his return. The big striker slid home to give us a lead.

Fulham’s defence looked sturdy and coped well with United. The game turned on itself head at the break.

Humphrys had a golden chance to set Adebayo clear, but the forward held the ball for too long and the chance went away. The Fulham front line had more bite to it and Humphrys extended the lead on the hour. A floated cross found its way through to the big man who hammered home from close range.

The visitors were enjoying themselves, a slick build-up found O’Riley who was denied by a superb Matej Kovar stop. Mundle-Smith was stretchered off with a serious hand injury and replaced by Timmy Abraham.

O’Riley’s dead ball situations were proving to be a menace to the United back line. Humphrys couldn’t get a clean contact on an in-swinging free kick.

The Red Devils were pressing the back four, but without troubling Wickens in the Fulham goal. Davies and Jerome Opoku looked comfortable in dealing with the threat Chong and Gomes were posing.

Wickens was forced into his first meaningful save of the match in added time to push away Chong’s effort but Fulham secured an excellent victory in Manchester.
