Fulham enjoyed a productive evening in Norfolk as they scored four to bring home all three points convincingly.

Fulham Convincingly Quash Canaries

Monday 29 October 2018 20:53

Fulham Under-23s emphatically got back to winning ways as they put four past Norwich at Carrow Road.

A brace from Cameron Thompson accompanied Matt O’Riley’s strike and Cody Drameh’s lovely chip to seal a perfect win.

A minute silence was observed before kick-off to mark the tragic events in Leicester last weekend.

Fulham started the game on the front foot as Thompson was presented with a O’Riley cut back, the Norwich defence got in well to smother the danger.

It took a while for the hosts to find their stride, but when they did, Aron Davies was on hand. He flung himself at a teasing cross to take it off the head of Anthony Spyrou. From the resulting corner, Jerome Opoku headed off his own crossbar and Fulham survived.

The Young Whites were forced to defend their goal for a short spell. A well worked move saw Drameh spring into life to cut out Spyrou’s lay-off.

Fulham rode the wave and started to put together some dangerous attacks of their own. Nicolas Santos-Clase spun away from his man and was brought down 20-yards out. O’Riley got too much on his free kick and bent it over the top.

Luca Ashby-Hammond made his first meaningful save at full stretch past half an hour. The stopper got fingers to a curling shot from Alfie Payne which was destined for the top corner.

The breakthrough came as more gaps between the lines were exposed. Tyrese Francois was played in behind – his cross was bundled home by Thompson to end his goal drought.

The lead was doubled shortly after. Jaydn Mundle-Smith had been causing problems for a while and his cross was spilled by Jon McCracken under pressure, O’Riley was given the simple task of tapping home.

Norwich pressed self-destruct at the back as Caleb Richards played a suicidal pass in his own area - Santos-Clase’s effort was deflected behind. That proved to be the last action of the half as the Young Whites took in a comfortable lead.

The second half begun with another flurry of attacks. Jayden Harris flashed across the box after Drameh’s run set up the dangerous position.

The Canaries came out of their shells to try and salvage a route back. Isak Thorvaldsson’s cross was inches away from the toe of Spyrou, but Ashby-Hammond gathered.

As Norwich pushed for a leveller, gaps appeared. Drameh added a superb third as he spotted McCracken off his line to emphatically lob the ‘keeper from a tight angle.

Ashby-Hammond was called into action again as Norwich looked to respond. Substitute Devante Aransibia’s shot was beaten away with a one-handed stop as The Canaries were held at bay.

Harris found a lucky deflected pass come into his path from a sideways ball, but he could only put his shot into the side netting.  Thompson added his second of the night as he waltzed past a few challenges before rounding McCracken and slamming home from close range.

The last few minutes were routine for Fulham as they saw out an impressive win under the lights.
