Fulham Under-23s were well beaten in Woking as Reading stretched their unbeaten run to 14 games and inflicted our first goals conceded in three games.

Reading Sink Unbeaten Run

Friday 23 November 2018 20:50

Goals at regular intervals saw Reading Under-23s come away with three goals and three points at Woking FC on Friday night.

Pelle Clement, Tom McIntyre and Callum Harriott saw the Royals over the line and stretch their unbeaten run to 14 games.

Cameron Thompson looked sharp early on as he nearly seized upon a short back pass – however, Akinwale Odimayo got back in the nick of time to prevent a goal.

Adrian Popa forced Luca Ashby-Hammond into his first stop of the game just after the Young Whites had put together the best move of the match. A 25-yard shot was beaten away by the stopper.

The game was unusually open for the opening stages as both teams found pockets of space. Callum Harriott picked the ball up in a dangerous area but Jaydn Mundle-Smith made up the ground. Cody Drameh was finding space down the right as his couple of crosses evaded those in the box.

The hosts did take the lead when Pelle Clement won the ball high up the pitch and was able to fire into the corner. Thompson embarked on a solo mission to level the score as he carried the ball from the halfway line, only to shoot straight at Liam Driscoll.

An open, yet uneventful game the encounter lacked any cutting edge, with a few loose passes. Mundle-Smith’s lovely cross was scrambled clear which marked the end of an uneventful first half.

Reading doubled their advantage seven minutes into the second half. A string of corners were temporarily dealt with until Tom McIntyre glanced a header into the far corner.

Tyrese Francois won the ball in a 50/50 situation and allowed Harris to come away with it. The midfielder pulled a cross back for Harvey Elliott who saw his shot deflected over for a corner.

The hosts killed the game on the break as Mundle-Smith was denied a free kick. Harriott’s initial shot from six-yards was saved by Ashby-Hammond but he gobbled up the rebound.

The Young Whites nearly hit back when Jayden Harris won the ball to play in sub Fabio Carvalho – his effort was smothered by Driscoll.

As the game drew on, Reading grew more compact and offered little way through the back line. Thompson flicked an effort into the side netting which was as good as it got.

The result inflicts our first defeat in three games in all PL competitions.
