Fine Margins Deny Fulham

Fulham Under-23s narrowly missed out on snatching a point in Wolverhampton on Friday afternoon.

Niall Ennis’ penalty five minutes into the second half was enough to send the hosts back to the top of Premier League 2 Division 2.

Cody Drameh looked sharp early on and nipped in to win the ball from Dion Sanderson. Having secured a few ricochets and rode challenges, he could only fire his volley over.

Elijah Adebayo tested Andreas Sondergaard early on from the edge of the box. His powerful curling effort needed turning behind as it looked destined for the corner.

Jayden Harris was settling in well to his wing back role and got in behind to nearly find Adebayo – Ed Francis matched him to stab clear.

Wolves slowly grew into the game and had their first chance just before half an hour. Jerome Opoku did superbly to block Ennis’ close range shot as George Wickens was yet to make a save.

A few stoppages in play for a couple of injuries killed any Fulham momentum as the teams went in deadlocked at half time.

Five minutes into the second half, and Wolves had the one opening they desired. Ennis went to round Wickens who could only bring down the forward. The striker stepped up himself to slam home the penalty.

Fulham thought they had responded straight away but Moritz Jenz’s header was ruled out for offside. Sondergaard was firmly in the game for the host as he again prevented Adebayo’s first-time effort from Cameron Thompson’s powerful run down the left.

Wickens made a top-class double stop to keep the Young Whites in the game. Firstly, he clawed out Oskar Buur’s cross then somehow got a hand to Ennis on the second phase of play.

Fulham intensified their pressure as Wolves became penned in their own half. Opoku got on the end of a lovely Tyrese Francois cross but couldn’t get over his header.

The pressure came to nothing as an even contest ended with Fulham firing a blank.
