Fulham Under-23s’ superb form continued after they beat Sunderland 3-0 at The Academy of Light.

U23s Make It Three On The Bounce

Sunday 1 March 2020 20:40

Main Action:

Fulham Under-23s’ superb form continued after they beat Sunderland 3-0 at The Academy of Light.

Goals from Luca de la Torre, Cameron Thompson and Martell Taylor-Crossdale helped gift the Young Whites their third consecutive win in all competitions.

Fulham very nearly took an early lead when Tyrese Francois struck a fierce volley which fired off the crossbar and Cameron Thompson had a long-range effort denied by goalkeeper Anthony Patterson soon after.

The confident start was rewarded 12 minutes in when Thompson took the ball off Andrias Edmundsson before squaring it to de la Torre who tapped it in.

Thompson was very effective in the first half hour and found his well-deserved goal on 30 minutes. His first effort struck the crossbar, but he was in position to fire the rebound past the ‘keeper.

Sunderland created their best chance just before half time. Joseph Hugill played Cieran Dunne through on goal, but the winger’s effort was right at Damian Las who made the save.

The second half was a quieter one, but the Black Cats came close to halving the deficit when Edmundsson headed just wide.

The three points were confirmed in the 81st minute when substitute Taylor-Crossdale converted from an excellent Cody Drameh cross.

Mark Pembridge and Colin Omogbehin’s side looked in control throughout and travel back to Motspur with the three points.

What This Means:

Fulham temporarily climb two places into ninth and find themselves just six points off the play-offs with four games remaining. Sunderland remain at the bottom of the table with two points.

Key Talking Points:

  • Damian Las made his first appearance for the U23s in goal.
  • Martell Taylor-Crossdale scored his first goal since January 17th against Everton.
