Taylor-Crossdale Inspired Treble Edges Thriller

Main Action:

The Under-23s shaded a nine-goal thriller at Craven Cottage thanks to Martell Taylor-Crossdale’s hat-trick and Luca de la Torre’s brace.

The boys went in with a three-goal cushion at the interval which sparked a gutsy comeback by the visitors, only for de la Torre to win it with five minutes remaining.

Fulham flew out of the traps and hit Reading on a swift break. De la Torre found space in the middle to tap home Cody Drameh’s inch-perfect cross. The Royals looked to instantly respond as the ball was worked to Thierry Nevers whose shot was charged down by Tayo Edun.

Fulham continued to sneak into dangerous areas, and some neat work around the box resulted in Edun poking a pass into Taylor-Crossdale who swivelled to find the bottom corner. The frontman was lurking again as Reading were chasing shadows. Sonny Hilton spun his man to pull back for Taylor-Crossdale to fire home his second.

The boys continued to dismantle the visitors as Drameh got in behind again. His cross needed diverting behind to prevent a treble for Taylor-Crossdale. Matt O’Riley, who had been pulling strings from deep, ventured forward to curl one over Jokull Andresson’s goal.

Reading were offered a lifeline from the onslaught as Teddy Howe went down softly under Moritz Jenz’s challenge which allowed Gabriel Osho to score from 12-yards. Hilton had the chance to kill the game after persistent work from de la Torre to fashion a chance. Somehow, he fired wide from six-yards.

The deserved treble was completed on the stroke of half time. Taylor-Crossdale faced up his man and worked it onto his right foot to curl into the corner.

The second half saw Reading instantly narrow the gap as a floated cross hit Nevers and landed at substitute Adam Liddle who volley home with a hint of offside. A spate of corners put Reading within one. Ethan Coleman attacked an inviting corner to nod home.

George Wickens prevented the visitors from levelling with a trademark sprawl to prevent Josh Barrett sliding under him. Michael Olise advanced at the Fulham goal to level the game emphatically curling one into the top corner.

Barrett almost won the game in style with a dipping volley from over his shoulder that pinged the bar to safety. De la Torre presented us with the lead again five minutes from time. Davis’ ball across the box was received on the corner of the box and the American did the rest.

What That Means:

The Under-23s move within three points with tonight’s opponents, who occupy the final play-off spot and move into seventh.

Notable Talking Points:

  • Martell Taylor-Crossdale opened his Fulham PL2 account in style with a clinical treble.
  • Luca de la Torre marked his second start with a classy brace.
  • Fulham move into seventh with a win in a bizarre game.
