On 16th June 2014, the Club confirmed the signing of Motherwell defender Shaun Hutchinson on a two-year contract, with an option to extend the deal by a further year.
The centre-back arrived with a promising reputation having been a mainstay in the Scottish side’s backline for several years, clocking up more than 140 appearances in the process.
From 2011-2014, Hutchinson helped ‘Well to three second place finishes in the Scottish Premier League, behind winners Celtic. This led to him sampling both UEFA Champions League and Europa League football, although they did not progress beyond the qualifying stages.
In his time at Fir Park he also helped the club reach the Final of the Scottish Cup where they were beaten by Celtic, was awarded SPL Young Player of the Month in April 2012, and was named in the PFA Team of the Year the following season.
The Newcastle-born defender began his career at Wallsend Boys Club – where he was usually deployed as a midfielder – before making the move to Fir Park in 2007.
